doing the werkq to refresh a Chicago dance institution, and usher in a new era

why

To give JHDC a brand identity system that matches its rich history, deep values, and joyous vision for the future.

how

By understanding the organization’s roots in Joel Hall himself, and the unique way that they behave: as truly inclusive, community builders, not just dancers.

what

An identity system that is vibrant and energetic, recognizable, and easy to use — whether its on a 2” social media post, or the facade of a building.

my role

JHDC was the first recipient of Design B&B’s year long service grant for non profits, the Good Egg Grant. The grant was established to give non profit organizations better access to the kind of long term, strategic design work that is often deprioritized, but that can be pivotal in maximizing an organization’s reach. As creative director on this project, my role was both leading the design team and client relationship, and establishing ways of working for the grant going forward. We learned so much about how to design in this sector.
